Mo Talaba
owner & engineer
Mo was formed through a complex process of metamorphic crystallization deep within the earth’s crust in Ontario, Canada. Early on, this pile of carbon atoms was infused with a passion for music, so his formative years were spent trying not to suck at guitar, bass, drums and vocals - something he still does to this very day. His interest in audio electronics, acoustics, songwriting, art, and horticulture drove him to acquire just enough knowledge to be dangerous in a variety of subjects, as did his degree in recorded music production from one of those music technical colleges in Toronto. Which afforded him the opportunity to hang out at CBC studios and other facilities that were way more fun where he learned about studio gear, recording techniques, construction, writing, applied acoustics and stuff like that.
Since relocating to Eugene Oregon in 2001 he has recorded out of the legendary Gung-Ho Studio and the garage that has now become National Freedom Studio in Cottage Grove. Mo enjoyed making records at other studios, but he dreamed of having a studio of his very own, so one day he gathered up all his knowledge and power tools, and with the help from some friendly woodland creatures, built his very own studio in Eugene - Numberstation.
Mo and Chris Colbert met when their friend Richard Swift pointed out that they both had the same John Mayer-inspired “Wonderland” lower back tattoo. So naturally they formed an alliance built on a foundation of music, tacos, and Chris needing somewhere to store some of his gear.
